I had a problem with an eBayer recently. I won a book, didn't hear from then again for ten days until I got a response: "just checking". The book arrived a few days later.

This morning, he left me retaliatory negative feedback ("Impatient, uncommunicative, repetitive, has limited comprehension skills. AVOID!"). And some of that just ain't true! :D So I mailed him and let him know I'd be complaining to other consumers. He then threatened to have me removed from eBay! So I've been getting all sorts of nifty legal and consumer advice this afternoon. FUN. :D

http://www.starfury.demon.co.uk/uground/ is a gorgeous site with oodles of photos on the disused, abandoned, or hidden stations of the London Underground.

Well worth a bookmark and an afternoon's lingering.

Are we all quite finished reading Harry Potter now? It's been a whole two days. Show some restraint, dammit.

*hugs* to everyone that cried. =)

Just a reminder to the mildly podgy ones on my flist: The [info]pudgepledge project has been successful. We didnt just fill the quota on the pledge, we've gone over. WOO!

So now that the community has started, we're going to start working out how we're each going to lose weight. Reliably, not stressfully.

BUT, more members = more enthusiasm. And I know some of you have unwanted tummies.

It's been awful few weeks. Off LJ for a bit.

2:49 am - poll-ish
Dang! Just thought of a good poll, but my paid account had *just* expired.

So when was the last time you felt dumb? And when was the last time you felt clever?

2:56 am - wanna bet?
Thwarted on another community, I still feel the need to gamble in a small way.

Anyone want to make me a $5.00 bet? Any topic's open.

4:49 am - Pudge Pledge
Does anyone on my flist want to lose a teeny, tiny bit of weight? I want to lose about... well, say.... 14lbs. Nothing crazy.

Pledge here: http://www.pledgebank.com/PudgePledge

Then join here: http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=pudgepledge

Then help me get just another 10 9 people on the pledge by the end of July. =)

We can take as long as we like to actually *lose* the weight, but I'll bet we could manage a healthy, sustainable ~2lbs a week. That's what the community is for.

And fuck it, it'll mean some of you lovely flist folk will meet and chat, and I think you're all lovely, so maybe some of <a href="http://www.livejournal.com/users/broin/friends>you</a> will think others of you are lovely too.

3:09 am - heard the one about the flaming cat?
Oh GOD, I doubt I could laugh any more.

LJ monkey [info]city_glitter posts about how her cat was set on fire. 10 pages of comments, lots of sympathy. Posts followed mentioning the surgery and the bills, and the $5,000 dollars the cat would cost to fix. So people started donating money. Lots of it.

her friend,
[info]foxfur posts, having researched the police files, local vets and whatnot, and decides the cat was not set on fire. Cat =/= on fire. Cue a zillion posts, many along the lines of 'how dare you u suk as a freind'. Damn you, [info]foxfur, you cynic!

[info]city_glitter responds with "Due to my not feeling the need to defend myself against the irrational anger of others, I am choosing not to provide her with the proof she seeks."... Right.

Oh, and the two have an AIM conversation log, with lots of acrimony and snark. Oh man, it's good.

But then a little bit later, [info]city_glitter admits her cat was not set on fire. 500+ comments followed, and a great deal of consternation was found within.

But it wasn't exactly fraud, you see. It was an experiment. She said she wanted to prove to her family that the intarwebb was full of nice, generous folk.

Now I'm going to read all the bitter, bitter comment threads. =)

PS: My cat is on FIRE. RIGHT NOW. Please send moneys!

PPS: Turns out [info]city_glitter's cat's name is Schrodinger. Ha!

I added the 'Carnivale' series to my ScreenSelect DVD requests a while ago.

Who recommended it to me, and is it good? :)

I was just chatting to a friend who travelled back home from London, yesterday. Good timing.

As always, fucking amazing coverage on the BBC. Blogs, eyewitness' emails, video for download.

PledgeBank is just the sort of heartwarming liberal guff I adore. How cool. Some examples:

"I will boycot Esso / ExxonMobil products but only if 50 other people will too."

"I will endeavour to get the word "Avince" into the OED but only if 14 other UK citizens will too."

"I will give three copies of non-religious books (that are important to me) to random people I see on the street but only if 50 other people will too."

"I will bury a bucket to create a home for stag beetles but only if 8 other people will too."

Genius. Anyone inspired? :D

A minor thing, but my email address is now joe.r.murphy@gmail.com. At least for the next month or so. I'm changing hosting, but the email forward I have set up on broin@notzen.com will last till the end of the month.

Anyone recommend webhosting? I was previously with Hosting Matters who seemed good. All I'm looking for is *minimal* webspace (now that Gmail can handle the multiple meg picture trading lists I'm on), and a few email addresses.

At least since Dawson's Creek. Man, that was some frowning.
